Playboy is the newest name to claim a post in the crypto atmosphere; advertising its premier digital art association with the blockchain-powered auction hub Nifty Gateway.
Advancing their digital enterprise, the firm will be hosting a virtual art gallery. This is to show off their NFT works in the Decentraland metaverse today, May 4.
The forthcoming virtual gallery exhibit will highlight a range of unique NFT art. It is designed by digital collage artist Slimesunday in partnership with Playboy‘s editorial and archival curators, titled “Liquid Summer.”
Each virtually mastered art centers on comparing past and future. This will be fusing Playboy‘s almost-70-year legacy of intriguing entertainment with the dynamism of crypto’s ever-evolving, new edge.
Slimesunday emphasized that,
“My process has always involved scanning images from magazines, so when Playboy offered full access to their archive everything really came full circle for me. Working with Executive Editor Liz Suman and the entire Playboy team has allowed me to get the full story behind each image in a deeper way than I normally would be able to.”

Entering the gallery, a floor-to-ceiling poster parades the collection’s name. This is adjacent to a polaroid image of Playboy‘s signature bunny theme captioned “Playboy x Slimesunday May 2021.” The associated gallery rooms invite guests; where each large-scale, virtual masterpiece is presented on top of grey walls. Soonest the guests have proceeded through the entire collection, a co-branded bar expects and serves up virtual drinks.
The event will also use the space to facilitate a series of live events; including a DJ set from 3LAU and a conversion with Slimesunday and Suman.
Suman further stated that,
“We wanted to make a big ‘splash’ with Playboy’s first collection of NFTs — and the first digital Playboy cover ever to be sold. So it just made sense for us to celebrate the launch in a virtual art gallery in the metaverse given how digital our last year has been.”
She continued stating that,
“The digital gallery itself is awash with Liquid Summer and Slimesunday vibes, complete with floors that look like metallic water. And, of course, there’s the art itself, which features iconic Playboy imagery reimagined through the Slimesunday lens.”
Decentraland’s Dave Carr stated that Playboy’s intention to host a virtual NFT gallery in Decentraland in line with the firms artistic advantage.
“Playboy has always been synonymous with innovation and pushing boundaries.”
