Dorsey Touts Bitcoin, Retains Trump Ban

Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s CEO said that the ban of Donald Trump from last week was evil and the firm still supports decentralization.

In the latest tweet surge, Twitter Ceo Jack Dorsey addressed last week’s ban of Donald Trump from the platform and paused to hail Bitcoin’s ability to enable decentralized control.

Trump has been removed from the social network following the aftermath of last week’s US Capitol attacks after Twitter alleged his tweets likely incited further violence.

“I believe this was the right decision for Twitter,” he wrote in a post today. “We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.”

Dorsey expressed mixed emotions with the ban, which many have criticized as setting a hazardous criterion, and then pivoted to stating that Twitter will work toward “more transparency in our moderation operations.”

“All this can’t erode a free and open global internet.”

That is why the most popular and powerful thing that the social media app must do is to embrace Bitcoin.

The reason I have so much passion for Bitcoin is largely because of the model it demonstrates: a foundational internet technology that is not controlled or influenced by any single individual or entity,” he stated.

If all that sounds at odds with the influence Twitter gives to political conversations, Dorsey advised that he is working to reconcile the differences through the firm’s Blue Sky Initiative, which aims to create “an open decentralized standard for social media.”

Whether or not that is plausible, or even desirable still, it has to be tweeted.
