Advantech, a Taiwanese industrial computer maker, has been involved in a ransomware attack that got most of their data stolen and encrypted by the Conti ransomware gang.
Reports state that attacks have been rising by the start of the year, and Bitcoin and Monero have been the most preferred mode of payment for these bad actors.
Ransomware attack on Advantech
Advantech is the biggest supplier of industrial computers worldwide, and they also produce devices used for healthcare and IoT solutions. The company was attacked last week. The Conti Ransomware attackers claim to have accessed most of their data. They threatened to release them, except the company complies with paying around 750 BTC ransom, which amounts to about $13.8M.
No payment has been sent to the attacker by Advantech. The computer maker is insinuating that the attack didn’t cause significant damage. Although the servers have been attacked, Advantech emphasized that efforts to recover them are underway. However, other systems weren’t affected, and its productions, orders, and product shipping are operating normally.
Ransomware threats
Because of the delayed payment, the Conti Ransomware attackers have released a vast number of stolen data on the leak site. The attackers claimed to release the data that represented only 2% of the entire stolen data. They are threatening to release more if Advantech didn’t comply with their Bitcoin Ransomware demand.
It has been reported earlier this month that another ransomware attack on Campari happened. The attackers have hacked and encrypted their data, demanding around $15M in bitcoin, and it will be decrypted.
