Silk Road Movie Coming Soon

An upcoming film titled “Silk Road” will be showing in the US theaters in February; Lionsgate announced last Monday that it had acquired the movie.

The entertainment company plans to release the film on February 19 in US Theaters, digital, and video on demand. It will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on February 23.

The movie is based on the Rolling Stone article named “Dead End on Silk Road” by David Kushner. The film is written for the screen and will be directed by Tiller Russell. IMDB described the movie plot as:

“Philosophical twenty-something Ross Ulbricht creates Silk Road, a darknet website that sells narcotics, while DEA agent Rick Bowden goes undercover to bring him down.”

Jurassic World’s lead actor, Nick Robinson, will portray Ulbricht in Silk Road. While Jason Clarke, the one who played John Connor in Terminator Genesis, will be the DEA agent. X-men’s Storm, Alexandra Shipp, will also be in the movie, together with Jimmi Simpson, Katie Aselton, Lexi Rabe, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Daniel Stewart, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Lauren Bixby, the VP of Lionsgate Acquisitions, commented: Silk Road is a thrilling story with the kind of stranger-than-fiction details that can only come from a true story. This movie will keep audiences riveted by its cat-and-mouse game of a criminal mastermind being tracked by a hot-headed narc.”

The filming of Silk Road began in June 2019, and it has been scheduled for the world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in April 2020, but the festival has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Silk Road is not Lionsgate’s first crypto movie. In April 2019, the company released the film named “Crypto,” starring Beau Knapp, Alexis Bledel, Luke Hemsworth, and Kurt Russell.

The US Government recently revealed that it had caught bitcoin amounting to over $1B from formerly undetected transactions connected to the Silk Road marketplace.
