Ellen DeGeneres Auctions her NFT

Ellen DeGeneres acquires $31,000 through her first-ever NFT auction!

She promised to transfer all the proceeds from the NFT auction to “World Central Kitchen,” Chef Jose Andres’ show.

The popular American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres auctioned her first NFTs collection for $30,955 on Bitski today.

“I’m raising money for @WCKitchen. I made an NFT, and you can bid on it!”

DeGeneres tweeted before the start of the auction.

“Ellen is jumping on the latest internet craze for a good cause by auctioning off a never-before-sold monologue and selfie featuring her original artwork, ‘Woman with Stick Cat,’”

The collection described

Remarkably, all of the proceeds from her NFT drop will go to Chef Jose Andres’ “World Central Kitchen,” a non-governmental organization that provides meals to the victims of natural disasters.

The Stick Cat gets Famous

Ellen DeGeneres auctions her NFT

DeGeneres’ collection, which was up on sale for just 24 hours, has three tiers of NFTs of different scarcity. The cheapest, the “SILVER ‘Woman with Stick Cat’ Package,” involved infinite amounts of tokens at a price of $100. These NFs displayed a photograph of DeGeneres holding a drawing of a “stick cat,” apparently drawn by herself. When the auction ended, 64 of the tokens had been sold.

“Own a piece of digital history, and smile knowing that proceeds from your purchase are going to a great cause! Buy a hi-res ‘Woman with Stick Cat’ Digital Image NFT as seen on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ the program’s first foray into the world of NFTs,” stated the description.

The “GOLD ‘Woman with Stick Cat’ Package” is almost the same as the silver one but it offers the buyers a physical, printed copy of the image signed by Ellen herself. Only 10 of the NFTs have been minted as a part of a limited edition, and another four of them were sold at $2,500.

Lastly, the unique “PLATINUM ‘Woman with Stick Cat’ Package” included an “exclusive, downloadable 4k video file of NFT of Ellen DeGeneres’ monologue from episode 18098 of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ highlighting the comedian giving a ultimate explanation of NFTs.” The bid for it won for $14,555.

Taking Advantage on the NFT craze

Even though it was for a good cause, DeGeneres gets a number of criticism from Twitter for joining in the NFT craze.

“Wow such an amazing artwork. (No) get your hands off our cozy #NFTCommunity,” a user tweeted.

Others have highlighted that a lot of talented artists are really struggling to gain recognition and the NFT market allowed them to earn money for their masterpiece – not like DeGeneres who is just gaining on her celebrity status.

“I understand wanting to be involved with the fun of this market. But this isn’t just a market. This is a community of really hard working artists who have been denied a market for years and years. Now, they have an oppounrity (sic) for recognition and validation,” tweeted Multivrs Studios.

Whatever it may be, it seems like NFTs have been a mainstream now.
